So I’ve just made it! Finally, I’ve set up my wordpress blog site. I think this calls for a drink. So I go and fetch one.
I’ll get back soon.

Congrats, Janos! Now that you have found your way around, check out the other blogs so you can have a look at the different templates and ways to configure yours!
I am looking forward to your reflection on the different tools.

Dear Bee and Berta,
Thank you for your comments. I’ve taken your advice Bee, I’ve looked around and have chosen a new template for my blog. I’ll try to learn more on how to configure it so that it could best serve my overall purpose.
But knowing that too much dose of it has a counter-effect I wisely put the cork back on it and left the magic drops for some later times.
Berta, I was indeed so happy to set up my very first wordpress blog – NB. I’ve already experimented with blogger blogs – that I could not resist the temptation of having a glass of Tokaj Aszu, the famous Hungarian wine which is said to have medicinal qualities.
I feel quite determined to make it my daily routine to sit down and write some lines and reflect on issues and cases related to education and ICT.
I’ve just downloaded and listened to Clarence Fisher’s talk that I found absolutely inspiring and instructive. I’ll reflect on it tomorrow here. Now I must go to catch some Z’s.
Cheers, Janos

Great start, Janos!
Glad you enjoyed Clarence’s talk. You can read more about him and his projects (including his wonderful post on ‘How to dress if you live in northern Canada,’ wasn’t that a great post?) on his blog: http://remoteaccess.typepad.com/remote_access/
Looking forward to reading your thoughts!

Hi Janos
Congrats on the blog! I also chose this template, but you might want to have a look at what I did with it. It’s extremely easy to change the picture at the top and crop it to fit!
Greetings
Illya

This is just a quick reflection on Clarence Fisher’s great talk. I liked very much the way he articulated the importance of opening up our classrooms to the outside world and connecting youth so that they could learn from each other by being engaged in different meaningful projects. He highlighted the fact that the emerging web 2.0 tools empower students to express their views and become responsible and caring global citizens. I think, we educators indeed can develop different skills by taking advantage of the Net, such as critical thinking skills, collaborative skills and no doubt we can even develop our students’ empathy.
I firmly believe that highlighting the importance of ethical behaviour is a must when getting students engaged in online activities. Here goes a link to the Global Voices Manifesto (http://tinyurl.com/37j2rm) I usually discuss with my students the content of this important document before getting them involved in telecollaborative projects. We even end up pledging to it.

I read Global Voices Manifesto and consider the most crucial point, and the one most likely to revolutionize the way we live and percieve the world, is the one about voices no longer being controlled by the media. However, refering to a political point made by Berta – will people in certain areas become more exposed to harm and political pressure, or will they be able to unite and become a movement that can free themselves of political harnesses of free speech?
We are getting into politics here; however, I think, in the long run, it’s unavoidable.
